Insight Christies: 2014 November auction highlights – Rolex-Part 3

Fine WatchesEvents

When I first started collecting watches a few years ago, I would often here the word NOS. I had little idea what it meant and quite frankly I did not care either.

It is only recently with my focus on Vintage Rolex that I would understand the importance and meaning of NOS. NOS in watch collecting terms means ‘New Old Stock’.

NOS is a watch that is old but never used. They are a few around but they are very rare. The watch above is a NOS.

It is a Rolex Daytona 6263 from 1986.

The watch comes from the second owner who bought it purely as an investment, from the first owner, and then put the watch in a safe. The watch has never been used, not once. The case according to Christies in untouched, so is the crocodile leather strap. The watch retains the original sticker 6263 on the case back. From sitting in a safe for many years, the watch shows heavy signs of oxidation. Besides being mint and ‘new’ the watch has other attractive features. The combination of the black bezel, black registers together with the gold case and burgundy crocodile strap makes for a superb combination. Also the watch comes ofcourse, as would be expected, with all the accessories from a NOS. Rolex punched guarantee papers, Daytona instruction booklet, leather guarantee holder, outerbox, packaging even the sales tag is still present.

This watch is a true time capsule. In other words, NOS. For more information on the watch – please click here.
