Sighted A 1953 Fiat Otto vu or 8V Zagato

Classic CarsEvents

There is an exceptional and rare care coming up for sale at Arizona Scottsdale at Bonhams.

It’s a FIAT bodied by Zagato.

Many collectors are not aware but FIAT built some beautiful GT luxury cars in the 1950s most of them called Otto Vu or 8V. This example at Bonhams must belong to among the most beautiful of them all. The reason might well be Zagato who bodied this car.

FIAT had a vision to build a luxury grand touring car in limited numbers.

While FIAT took care of the technical elements (engine) the design and chassis was subcontracted by FIAT to the best coachbuilders of the time which included Vignale, Ghia and Zagato. The result can be seen below. Sportive but yet very elegant -Zagato created a masterpiece and it is – in my personal opinion perhaps the most attractive 8V Fiat ever made.

The car is an all alloy car, powered by a 2L 8-cylinder engine capable of 110bhp. Additionally the bumpers were lightweight and the windows plexiglass to save weight (typical of the all elaboratas). This FIAT is additionally attractive due to the famous ‘double bubble’ roof which only very few Zagatos are known to have.

The car also has some racing history as it was owned by Peduzzi – who drove for Scuderia Ferrari and raced the FIAT in Italy. A last plus is that the car was recently restored by experts like Paul Russell & Company.

This FIAT is only one of 110 cars that were ever made by FIAT called otto vu or 8v and one of 5 only Zagato built. It is a very rare and beautiful car.

The estimate by Bonhams is by request only (expect the estimate to be around $2m). Full listing here.

The front of this rare Zagato bodied car is a dream.

The car is masculine but feminine at the same time with the round curves. Its an all alloy body so very lightweight.

This FIAT 8v is equally attractive from the back.
