Auction Alert A unique Aston Martin

Classic CarsEvents

The biggest classic car auctions of the year take place this weekend at Pebble Beach in California.

This will be a very good time to read the market, especially on the high end, as RM Sothebys will be auctioning a Ferrari 250 GTO and Gooding a Ferrari 275 GTB /Speciale. Besides that, there are the usual suspect of cars that you see at every auction. But I did stumble on something rare and unusual. A unique Aston Martin DB2/4 bodied by Allemano.

This car is perfect for the collector of Aston Martin or for the collector who owns everything already.

What is appealing about this car is the unique coachwork. It is the only Aston Martin, I can think of, bodied by Allemano (a few DB2/4 were bodied by Bertone). Normally if you want an Italian designed Aston other than Touring – your going to pay more than $10m today (think DB4 GT by Bertone* or DB4 GT Zagato).

This 1953 DB2/4 Aston is appealing for many reasons, not only for its unique coachwork. The original buyer wanted a more powerful engine so he installed triple weber carbs. The dashboard is unique with its engined turned design and the bodywork is all alloy. And the front and form of the car reminds me personally of the special Pegaso cars which are also sought after for their unique styling today.

But what I love about this car the most, is that the design reminds of the DB4 Aston (especially from the front) which would first come 5 years later in 1958. It is almost as if the designer anticipated the future of what an Aston Martin will look like.

For a collector who wants to differentiate himself from others, without spending a fortune relatively speaking (estimate is $5-700’000), this Aston Martin might be a good choice.

The front of this Allemano bodied car reminds me of a DB4, a model which would first come out 5 years later.

The shape of this car looking much more modern than other Astons that were made in 1953.

I love the clean look of the engined turned dashboard.

The interior of the car functional and clean.

The engine output increased dramatically from the normal DB2/4 with 180hp (an extra 40 more hp) with triple Weber carbs as seen below.

Loving the front of this car – reminding me of the Pegaso – the unique Spanish sports car racing car made in the 1950s.

The back fins that look a little similar to the DB4 GT Zagato – a car that would first come out many years later.

Finally a front view. The big grille reminding us of the later DB4 Aston Martins that would first appear 5 years later.
