I normally would prefer to write something about Enzo Ferrari on his birthday which was February 18th but I missed the chance this year.
So I will pay tribute to him today.
Twenty-six years ago today Enzo Ferrari sadly passed away.
How do you begin to describe a man whom many revere as God? How do you describe a person who created the best road cars in the world? The best racecars? Had the best drivers in the world drive for him? How do you describe a man who visited his son’s grave every single day till the end of his life? A man who would stay in his office even on Christmas night and demand last minute fixes to his racecars from his engineers? How do you describe a man who had the foresight to have Pininfarina and Scaglietti work for him?
A genius? Surely. But Enzo is much more than that.
After having read several books on Enzo and read almost every important Ferrari book there is available, here is what comes to mind when describing Enzo Ferrari. Loyal, passionate, difficult, demanding, obsessive, dictatorial, visionary, inspiring. Enzo Ferrari was a genius no doubt.
But he was a complicated man who was extremely demanding and not easy to work with. But he produced results and his passion and vision created a car maker like no other. In the coming months and years we will write more on this interesting man. But for now we pay our respect and tribute to the greatest automotive god that ever lived.
The world will unlikely see the likes of Enzo Ferrari again.
At least not for the next 100 years.
