Sighted A 1962 Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta SWB

Classic CarsCollector's Insights

What Ferrari would be on the wish list of most collectors? If you carried out a poll throughout the world of just this question- I bet there would only be one answer.

The Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta SWB.

The 250 GTO might be more famous but – it is an Icon, a dream for most people. At $50-60m today it is also out of the reach of the majority of even the super rich.

Not so the 250 SWB.

A 250 SWB is valued today at $8m which is ‘relatively speaking’ affordable among the very rich. There were more than ninety 250 SWB steel cars built (there were also more than 60 competition cars made of the 250 SWB) so you would think they are relatively liquid- meaning they come to the market (public or private) often. But they don’t.

The last time a 250 SWB-steel version- was sold at auction is over five years ago. For six years not one single  250 SWB (steel version) has been sold publicly. This is about to change in one month at Monterey on August 14-17th. Rick Cole has a 1962 Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta SWB for sale, one that is matching numbers (apparently confirmed by Ferrari) and comes from a collector who has had the car for sixteen years.

The car is estimated at $8.5-9m. For more information on the 250 SWB 3735GT please click here.
