Salon Prive London 2014 Part II: British cars in focus

Classic CarsClassic CarsEvents

Part II of Salon Prive is dedicated to British cars of which they were many at Salon Prive (you can read about the first part here).

While many exceptional Ferraris were seen at Salon Prive, we believe that the British cars were perhaps even more impressive.

We have never seen so many D-type Jaguars on one spot (only roughly 71 were ever made). For those who love Jaguar though-something even rarer than a D-type was present: An XKSS. A what? Well an XKSS is basically the road going version of the D-Type. They are so super rare today as Jaguar had a fire in the 1950s and as a result lost most of their XKSS production (planned were 300). Only 16 examples survive today!

The XKSS is also known as Steve McQueen drove one too. For those who love Aston Martin, we saw a sublime DB4 GT Zagato in a beautiful light blue. Instead of more talking- lets get started with pictures.

We start with perhaps the nicest D-Type we saw. This car belongs to the well known car broker Simon Kidston who bought it over a year ago.

The car was sublime carrying an absolutely beautiful light blue/ gray colour. The car color reflected the wonderful weather seen in London that day.

There were plenty of other nice D-types on display. For example this car with its original (presumably) racing liveries.

D-types look just as imposing from the back. These cars with their fins were mean do one thing for Jaguar: Win races.

Perhaps the most famous D-type of them all: OKV I – a successful Le Mans racer for Jaguar (coming in 2nd in 1954) with its very imposing fin. This car also won best in show of the entire Salon Prive.

The most famous Jaguar besides the D-Type is another form of D-type, the XKSS – a road going D-type. Only 16 have survived.

The picture below should delight any Jaguar lover: Two D-types flanked by a Jaguar XKSS in the middle. A  rare sight indeed!

We move on to the finest British car in attendance- at least from our point of view: The sublime Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato.

Perhaps it was the light blue color that seduced us. Or the fact that only 19 were ever made. Or perhaps the two outside filler caps.

We thought Salon Prive had everything one could hope for: Superb cars. Beautiful weather. Enough space to walk around. We look forward to attending next year and congratulate the David Hayhow and the Bagley brothers for putting on an exceptional show!
