Insight Five reasons why I love vintage Rolex: Reason Nr 3

Fine WatchesCollector's Insight

Part 3: Vintage Rolex is just design perfection.

I love vintage Rolex because of the simple but superb design. This point might be perhaps my weakest argument why I like vintage Rolex.

Why?

Because we all know that taste and aesthetics are subject to much debate. I love many watch brands but Rolex just seduces me more than almost any other brand. To some degree this reflects my personality and the way I dress. I do a lot of sports but yet am elegant in my manners and the way I dress. Rolex is this perfect combination of elegance and sport.

Patek? I love Patek, but it tends to be very elegant only (yes the Nautilus is a great exception). Maybe the function of Rolex (the utility we get from it being a tool watch) is also extremely appealing. I think there are many vintage Rolex watches that are so versatile – they look good with swimsuit but yet equally good with a jacket a tie.

There can be no denying it for me and for many others: Rolex is well proportioned  and aesthetically speaking a beautiful watch. It has this timeless design that speaks to many collectors and watch lovers.

To illustrate my point in pictures, a Rolex can be worn superbly with a white dinner jacker or black tie.

But they also look great when they are removed from the case and you see the dial only.

They look stylish on a Nato strap.

And I find the Rolex oyster bracelet one of the best designs ever made.

Rolex watches are also famous for the superdome plexiglass on sports submariner (in this case 5512).

Explorer dial Rolex are for me the purist form of Rolex. Simple but powerful.

Rolex makes some of the best moon phases in the world. Agreed?

Rolex watches also look good – just lying in a vitrine.

But no doubt Rolex watches are also awesome in a pack.

However Rolex watches are best when worn.
