Sighted A hyper rare vintage Breguet diving watch

Fine WatchesCollector's Insight

If you think a Paul Newman Daytona is rare, what we have found here makes a Paul Newman look like a Volkswagen Beetle. A hyper rare Breguet diving watch made in the 1960s of which it is thought only 60 pieces were made in the world.

Very little is known about this diving watch as it was only recently discovered by watch scholars (for a report on a similar Breguet by  Ariel Adams please see here).

The watch above is a Breguet Diving watch Nr 1622 made in the 1962 and was purchased by a French man for the sum of 550 French Francs.

The case and movement is not Breguet and thus we assume that Breguet made this watch as a special order. The case is numbered and unsigned. The movement is made by A Shild and the watch has a screw-down caseback, as you would expect from a diving watch. Although both case and movement is unsigned – Breguet has authenticated the watch and it comes with an extract from the archives from Breguet noting the watch nr and sale date. Regarding the condition of the watch: The Bakelite bezel is almost untouched and remains completely in-tact. The dial looks clean and the hands correct.

The only concern we have with this watch is that it appears to have been relumed at some point. The lume does not match the Bakelite bezel and appears rather light compared to it. Otherwise this is the chance for a collector of vintage diving watches to buy a seriously rare watch. The watch carries an estimate of €45-65′ooo which is roughly $55-80′ooo.

The watch is for sale via Crott Auktionen in Frankfurt on 15th of November 2014. For more details please click here.
